Anyone who thinks we are not living in an alt universe is currently sitting in a self-made bunker, consuming beans and sausages straight from the can.
We are living in a universe in which Keir Starmer drops the word ‘vibe’ so unconvincingly that your own brain writes it off as a glitch in the Matrix. Indeed, we had the same feeling when the new Archbishop of Canterbury performed a gangster rap medley at her inauguration. Glitch.
The planets are not aligning, folks. The tectonic plates of politics have become a cesspit of cringe. And yet, across the vast, constantly extending pharmaverse, new chapters are being written – new artworks are being created, with spectacular flourishes. An undercurrent of cool, authentic vibes is creating landmasses of hope.
Take the new Huntington’s disease treatment. One of the most horrid conditions has been taken to task by bold scientists, and lives will be transformed accordingly.
This is the stuff that cannot be out-cooled by Kemi Badenoch singing Sweet Caroline, Ed Davey doing a solo climb up Big Ben, or Nigel Farage cobbling together a party using cotton reels and pipe cleaners.
Cool is as yet undefined. It is something that exists beyond definition. But a good foundation for this often unattainable adjective is something life-enhancing. For public healthcare to rediscover its mojo, pharma vibes must be the guiding light.
