The Americas dream

John Pinching reflects on an unforgettable Clinical Researcher of the Year – The Americas 2023

It may have been the 13th year of PharmaTimes’ epic Clinical Researcher of the Year – The Americas Awards but this occasion was nothing about luck (good, bad or otherwise!).

This occasion – as history dictates – was purely about saluting a huge abundance of transatlantic talent, through the high-res lens of modern pharma and the life sciences pharmaverse.

And what an impressive band of visionaries duly convened at the opulent Sheraton Hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina for the annual competition crescendo.

Chapter and diverse

The gala was also a great opportunity to recall how this year’s Clinical Researcher of the Year – The Americas had evolved according to the significant shifts of society, technological advances and global medical challenges.

Throughout each stage of the competition, we have encouraged participation across all backgrounds and ethnicity. Consequently, diversity and inclusion have helped to ignite each stage of the process – and the wider event has been much better for it.

Furthermore, to boost relevancy, we also conducted the yearly review, overseen by the Executive Steering Group. This distinguished committee was comprised of highly-experienced figures who, together with key stakeholders, ensured that the competition danced to the ever-changing rhythm of clinical research across the Americas.

This inherent flexibility led to the introduction of new challenges and revamped categories, ensuring that the finalists were continually tested and engaged.

Promised land

In order to reach the hallowed ground of the gala, all 61 individual finalists and 16 teams have showcased considerable creative and critical thinking abilities.

Indeed, there was an impressive range of companies at the ceremony, all there to support their intrepid colleagues who, in the breadth of this year’s competition, had gone toe-to-toe across nine gruelling categories. Yep, this was an obstacle course where is simply nowhere to hide!

Each and every candidate demonstrated an astonishing palette of skills, not to mention determination, just to reach these prestigious finals.

The atmosphere at the venue was electric, sparked by a cocktail of life sciences-based revelry, blissful anticipation and an undercurrent of nerves.

When the names were revealed it’s fair to say that the roof came off. These awards are hard-fought and hard-earned. If you left Raleigh with one under your arm, you knew that you’d left everything out there.
