Olivia Rivers is a Senior Account Director at Havas Lynx Group
There is still work to be done to shake off the negative perception of the industry. Young people increasingly value a career with purpose and pharma’s response to the pandemic showcased how it can have a positive impact across society. We need, however, to better demonstrate the exciting, impact-driven opportunities in pharma – only then can we pull in more diverse and skilled talent.
Leadership skills often become apparent in times of stress or problem-solving. I’ve found that in these situations, a clear, calm head with a focused plan can stand out in a crowd and rally a team towards a solution.
I’ve found that taking time out of the day to encourage the team, while also reminding them of the profound difference we can make, lifts energy and results. Pivotally, Havas Lynx Group recognises talent – not time served. We give young people the chance to work on challenging projects, be part of mentoring programmes, and get enrolled on the internal leadership programme.
Diversity of all kinds is essential for solving tough challenges. Young people are passionate about positive social change and in touch with evolving attitudes. That keeps our work relevant, resonant and competitive with our changing audience. Who wouldn’t want that on their team?
Ultimately, I hope to create positive human impact. It’s about bringing together people with different backgrounds and skill sets in order to make an enduring difference to lives throughout the world. That’s a career well spent to me!
